Getting around in Heidelberg

Within Heidelberg, both trams and busses frequently run between train station, central square and entry gate to the old town (Bismarckplatz) and the venue. They are widely used, with ticket machines at all tram stops (alternative: the myVRN app). Schedules can be found here (in German): https://www.vrn.de/mng/#/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2@init?mode=sharing, for English, also google maps is reliably displaying bus and tram connections.

Closest bus stops within ~5min walking distance are 'Herrenmühle', 'Heidelberg, S-Bf. Altstadt' and 'Neckarmünzplatz'. The closest S-train stop (~5min walking from venue) is 'Heidelberg-Altstadt', a 5min train ride away from the main station Heidelberg.

How to get to Heidelberg

By train:
Heidelberg main station (Heidelberg Hbf) is connected to high-speed, regional and local train networks, making travel by train the most convenient way to arrive in town. There are direct train connections for example to Frankfurt airport. The closest larger hub for high-speed train connections is Mannheim Hbf, a 10-15min train ride on regional and S-trains away from Heidelberg Hbf.

To find connections, please consult the DB webpage: https://int.bahn.de/en/

By plane:
The closest airport is Frankfurt international airport (FRA), followed by Stuttgart and several smaller airports. From both airports, the fastest, most cost-effective and convenient connection usually is by train. For example, there are several direct connections per day from Frankfurt terminal to Heidelberg main station via high-speed trains. Again, the DB webpage is your go-to place to find connections: https://int.bahn.de/en/

Alternatively, for example if trains are not available at the time, there are a range of airport shuttles:
- Lufthansa Airport-Shuttle: https://frankfurt-airport-shuttles.de/index.php. One way ticket from Frankfurt to Heidelberg: 32 Euro. Round trip costs 58 Euro. Within Heidelberg you can take the tram or bus to IWH.
- TLS-Airport Shuttle: https://www.tls-heidelberg.de/fileadmin/user_upload/Leistungen/Fahrplan_Orte_Englisch_Preisliste_2024.pdf; https://www.tls-heidelberg.de/en/services/airport-transfer/ One-way-ticket: 90 Euro (price for collective transfer, you can find the schedule at the link)
- TRN: https://www.trn-transfer.de/ One-way ticket from Frankfurt to Heidelberg 120 Euro per person
